AI Receptionist for Electricians: English and French Calls, and the Safety Script

By Right On Call ·

An outlet and a phone with two speech bubbles, one in each language

An electrician’s receptionist has two jobs in either language. On sparks, smoke, a burning smell, or a shock, it stops, reads a fixed safety message, and gets a person to call back. On routine work like pot lights or an EV charger, it books an estimate visit against your real calendar and never names a price. Ours does both in English and French and follows the caller’s language. Two notes on scope: in Canada we serve Ontario only, and no electrical contractor has taken a call on Right On Call yet, so we build and test an electrical setup with you before it answers customers.

How the language switch works

The greeting is in English, because nobody knows who is calling yet. If the caller answers in French, the receptionist carries on in French for the rest of the call, safety message included. If your shop has a recording notice set, it is repeated in French after the switch.

Other languages can be trained for your line on request and are tested with a native speaker before they answer customers. On Essential a third language is $69 CAD a month extra; Managed includes one. This website stays in English.

The safety script, in either language

Sparks, smoke, a burning smell, or a shock stop the normal call. The receptionist tells the caller to stop using the item, and to leave and call the gas utility or 911 from outside if they smell gas and it is safe to do so. It takes a callback number and flags the call so your on-call number is texted for an immediate callback. It gives no other safety advice and never says whether something is safe to touch. The exact wording is on the electrical page.

Routine work: booked, not quoted

Pot lights, added circuits, panel upgrades, and EV chargers are booked as visits against times your calendar actually returned. Asked for a price, the receptionist says the electrician prices it at the visit. When the visit books, the follow-up text asks for a photo of the panel or the spot, and a reply lands on the job and your on-call phone.

Demo call: a French-speaking caller books an EV charger estimate

This is a demo call written for this guide. The caller speaks French from the first line, and the call is shown here in English.

How the call goes

Demo
  1. Caller

(In French) Hi, I’d like someone to come look at putting an EV charger in my garage.

  2. Receptionist

(In French) Of course, I can book a visit for that. Just so you know, this call may be recorded. May I have your name?

  3. Caller

    Marie.

  4. Receptionist

Thanks, Marie. What is the address for the visit, with the postal code?

  5. Caller

Elm Street in London, N6H 1A1.

  6. Receptionist

That’s Elm Street, London, N6H 1A1. Is that right?

  7. Caller

Yes. Roughly how much does the install cost?

  8. Receptionist

I can’t give a price on the phone. The electrician looks at your panel and prices it at the visit. Let me check the calendar.

  9. Checking calendar

  10. Receptionist

I have these two times open. Which one suits you?

  11. Caller

    The morning, please.

  12. Receptionist

To confirm: the morning visit, on Elm Street, and the details go by text to the number ending in 0142. Shall I book it?

  13. Caller

    Yes, please.

  14. Booked on calendar
    Fri, Oct 30 · 8:30–10:30 AM · booked
  15. Receptionist

You’re booked. The text asks for a photo of your electrical panel; reply with one if you can, and reply YES to confirm.

Demo call, written for this guide. It is not a recording of a real customer call, and the caller, address, and number are made up. The times are examples drawn on this page, not a real calendar. The recording notice is spoken only when the shop has one set.

What it will not do

Whatever language the call is in, the receptionist does not:

  • Tell a caller whether something is safe to touch or use.
  • Book a normal visit on a safety call. A person calls back instead.
  • Quote a panel upgrade, a charger install, or any repair.
  • Put the caller through to a person. Your team is texted and calls back.
  • Cancel or move an existing appointment on its own.

Cost

Essential is $199 CAD a month with 200 minutes included, $699 CAD setup, and $0.70 CAD a minute past that, in CAD plus HST. English and French are included on every plan. Jobber connects from the dashboard on every plan with no adapter fee (OAuth, then a client and a job for each call, no technician assigned), and it is not a Jobber App Marketplace listing.

Before you sign with anyone, call the vendor’s test line in French and say an outlet is sparking. If the answer is anything other than a short safety message and a callback from a person, keep looking. The free missed-call audit shows how many calls you miss today from your own call log.
