Call Forwarding on Verizon: Sending Missed Calls to an Answering Service

By Right On Call ·

A phone ringing with an arrow pointing to a second phone

On Verizon you can forward calls you do not answer to an answering service with a short dial code, and Verizon’s own guide says current plans carry no monthly fee for it. Here are the codes, the limits Verizon states, and a limit on our side that affects US shops.

Setting and cancelling it

Set it: Dial *71 and the number. Forwards when you are busy or don’t answer after three or four rings. *72 forwards every call.

Cancel it: Dial *73, or turn it off in My Verizon.

What Verizon says about cost and reach

Verizon’s own guide says there is no monthly fee for call forwarding on current plans (some retired plans charge one), that forwarded calls still use airtime, and that it can’t forward to a number outside the US. We give you a US number, so the forward stays domestic.

What to know before you rely on texts

Texts to US phones need A2P 10DLC registration before carriers deliver them. We file it during setup; carriers approve it, usually in days but sometimes weeks, and we don’t control the timing. Until it is approved, no text reaches a US phone: not the caller’s confirmation, and not the summary to you. Calls are still answered, booked, and logged in your dashboard.

Test it

Call your own number from another phone and let it ring out. Do this before the line takes a real customer.

Carrier terms checked 2026-10-28. Re-check your plan before you rely on a fee.

Set the no-answer code, cancel code in hand, and test with a real call. For the US setup in full, see our US page.
