Bilingual Answering Service: Two Languages on One Business Line
By Right On Call ·
A bilingual answering service answers in the language the caller starts in and stays in it for the whole call. It does not send the caller to a menu or promise a callback in English. At Right On Call, English and French are live on every call. Spanish and other languages can be trained for your line on request, and we will not call a language tuned and tested until it has been.
How does a bilingual answering service pick the language?
The receptionist greets the caller in English, because it cannot know yet who is calling. When the caller answers in French, it continues in French through triage, the address, the booking and the text that follows. If it has to switch, it repeats the recording notice in the new language, so the caller hears it in a language they understand.
No menu, no “press 2 for Français”. A menu is one more place for a caller with an emergency to hang up.
English and French in Ontario
French is live today. If a caller starts in French, the receptionist stays in French. A shop in a part of Ontario with French-speaking customers gets the same triage rules, and the same booking limits in both languages.
Our website stays in English. The language you get is the one on the phone.
English and Spanish
Spanish can be trained for your line on request. It is not yet a tuned and tested language like French, and we will not call it that until it has been. Before it goes on your line, we write the Spanish script, test it on calls with a native Spanish speaker, and show you the results.
On Essential, a language beyond English and French is $69 CAD CAD a month, or $49 USD USD. Managed includes one extra language. Setup work for a new language is scoped before we start.
If you take calls from US numbers: Texts to US phones need A2P 10DLC registration before carriers deliver them. We file it during setup; carriers approve it, usually in days but sometimes weeks, and we don’t control the timing. Until it is approved, no text reaches a US phone: not the caller’s confirmation, and not the summary to you. Calls are still answered, booked, and logged in your dashboard.
What changes in triage and booking in a second language?
The rules do not change, but the words have to. The safety script, the one the receptionist uses for gas, smoke and similar reports, is fixed text. A second-language version has to be written and checked before it goes live. Treat any vendor that says a language is covered without showing you that script with caution.
The address step changes too. A Canadian postal code is read back letter by letter, and a Spanish caller will say numbers and street names differently. That is part of what the native-speaker test checks.
The receptionist still will not diagnose a problem or quote a repair price in any language, and it books only times your calendar returned.
What does it cost compared with a bilingual receptionist?
A live bilingual receptionist is priced per minute. Reviews of Davinci Virtual list its Premium plans, which add bilingual receptionists, at about US$249 a month for 50 minutes (checked 2026-10-28). Our Essential plan is $199 CAD CAD for 200 minutes with a language add-on at $69 CAD CAD, and the answer comes 24 hours a day.
A person is still the better choice for a caller who wants a long, delicate conversation in their language. For routine booking and triage, the AI does the work at any hour.
What we do not promise
We do not promise real-time translation between you and the caller, and we do not claim a language we have not tested. We have not yet tested how Spanish handles regional accents or mixed English and Spanish in one sentence, and we will tell you what we find.
If your customers call in French, it works today. If they call in Spanish, tell us and we will train it, test it with a native speaker and show you the result before it answers a real call. Run the missed-call audit to see how many calls in either language went unanswered last month.
