Why Right On Call Is the Best Option for an HVAC Company in Ontario

By Right On Call ·

A furnace and a thermometer beside a phone showing a missed call

We think Right On Call is the best option for an Ontario HVAC company because HVAC calls cluster, and the product is built for the calls you cannot reach when they do: the first cold weekend, a January deep freeze, a July heat wave. It sorts no-heat from a tune-up against your own emergency list, checks the address against your service area, books a window your calendar really has or texts your on-call tech, and stops short of diagnosing the fault or promising an arrival time. One thing to know first: no HVAC shop has taken a call on Right On Call yet. Our first live customer is an appliance repair shop in London, Ontario, so for HVAC we build and test your setup with you before it answers a real customer. This is our case as one of the vendors, not an independent ranking.

It uses your emergency list, not a generic one

What counts as urgent is written from your rules at setup: no heat at all in cold weather, no cooling for a household with a newborn, water leaking from the unit. A furnace that is running but not keeping up, a tune-up and a thermostat complaint book as routine. The receptionist asks the question your trade asks first, whether there is no heat at all or it is running but not keeping up, and the same answer gets the same outcome every time.

The safety check also reads the caller’s own words and leans toward catching. Burst pipe or dripping tap shows the three levels, safety, urgent and standard, on a plumbing call. HVAC uses the same structure.

It handles the week every furnace switches on at once

Calls bunch up in the first cold week of the fall and again in a deep freeze, which is when every tech is already on a roof or in a basement. Busy weeks cost extra minutes, not a bigger plan: Essential is $199 CAD a month with 200 minutes included, then $0.70 CAD a minute billed to the second, plus HST. January being January does not move you to a different tier. Real cost of a missed HVAC call puts numbers on the other side of that.

It captures what the technician needs before the truck rolls

The address and postal code are read back to the caller and checked against your coverage before anything is booked. It records the equipment (furnace, air conditioner, heat pump or boiler), the brand and model if the caller has them, how long the heat has been out, and access notes such as a side door, lockbox or dog in the yard. A booking sends the caller a text asking for a photo or short video, which is stored on the job and forwarded to your on-call number.

It ends the call booked or on your on-call phone

A no-heat call is still urgent, but the time it offers is a window your calendar returned, such as 8:30 to 10:30, not a promise that someone arrives within the hour. It books on Cal.com or Calendly, or creates a client and a job in Jobber, and your on-call tech is texted the job with the caller’s name, number, address and what is wrong. If the caller hangs up before giving an address, a recovery text goes out and whatever they said is kept on the call for your team.

Jobber connects from the dashboard on every plan with no adapter fee (OAuth, then a client and a job for each call, no technician assigned), and it is not a Jobber App Marketplace listing. Housecall Pro only opens its API on its MAX plan, which Housecall Pro bills you for, and we set the adapter up with you on request: one adapter is included on the Managed plan and a build beyond that is quoted separately. ServiceTitan is scoped per account and quoted before we start: one adapter is included on the Managed plan and a build beyond that is priced separately.

What it will not say

It does not diagnose the fault or say whether it is safe to keep running the furnace. It does not quote a repair or replacement price, and the only fee it states is your service-call fee. It does not promise an arrival time your technician has not confirmed, and it does not take a card number over the phone.

On a gas smell, smoke or a burning smell the normal call stops. The caller hears a fixed safety message, a callback number is taken, and the call is flagged for an immediate callback from a person. It gives no other safety advice and does not book a routine visit. What the receptionist cannot do has the full list.

What is proven and what is not

Proven: the appliance line it runs on today, which uses the same triage, postal-code check, calendar booking, on-call texting and photo request an HVAC setup would. Not proven: an HVAC shop on live calls. We have no HVAC results to quote, and the cost figures on our HVAC page are planning numbers, not outcomes. Before your line goes live we write your emergency list with you and run test calls on a private line.

When we are not the pick

In Canada we serve Ontario only, and we are done-for-you rather than self-serve. If you want a person on every call, or a dispatcher who assigns a named tech on your board, a staffed answering service fits better; dispatch stays with you here. AI receptionist vs answering service sets out the split.

A shop that decides before the first cold snap has time to run test calls on a private line. Ask any vendor, us included, to take a no-heat call at night and show you what it captured, what it booked and what it refused to say. The free missed-call audit uses your own call log to show how many calls rang out last winter.
