Comparison · Human answering service, 24/7, by the minute
Right On Call vs AnswerConnect.
AnswerConnect is one of the larger live answering services, with human receptionists on the line 24 hours a day and a Canadian site of its own. It is priced by the minute at human rates. Right On Call is AI, priced for volume, and built so a service call ends as a booked job instead of a message.

The 9 PM call that rings out
The same call, followed through both products. Nobody at the shop could get to it.
AnswerConnect
- 1A live receptionist answers with your greeting, day or night
- 2Follows the script you agreed and takes the caller’s details
- 3Sends you a message, transfers the call, or books where that is set up
- 4The minutes billed include the receptionist’s time after the call, per reviews
Right On Call
- 1You had your rings to pick up and couldn’t
- 2The receptionist answers as your shop, in English or French
- 3Triage: a no-heat call is urgent, a tune-up isn’t. Postal code checked
- 4A real open time is booked, or your on-call phone gets the job by text
- 5On a booking, the caller gets a confirmation text and a request for a photo

Handling time is not talk time
Answering services bill minutes, but not every service counts a minute the same way. Independent reviews of AnswerConnect report that plan usage is the total time spent handling the call, which includes the receptionist’s work after you hang up: writing the message, sending it, updating a record. A three-minute call can bill as more than three minutes.
That is a fair way to pay a person. The receptionist is working for you during those extra seconds. It does mean the number to compare is the minutes on a real bill, not the talk time in your call log.
Right On Call bills connected talk time, to the second. The summary text, the booking, and the job in Jobber happen in software after the call and don’t add minutes.

What AnswerConnect costs
Independent reviews list US plans at about $350 a month for 200 minutes (with a setup fee near $50 and about $2.50 a minute past the plan), $395 for 300 minutes, and $575 for 400 minutes, with larger plans quoted. Minutes are counted by handling time. AnswerConnect has a Canadian plans page, and one comparison reports a Canadian plan at CA$325 for 100 minutes, which doesn’t match the US figures. Ask for a written quote in the currency you pay in.
Right On Call is on the pricing page, in Canadian or US dollars, with what each tier doesn't include.
Where both sit in the market
You build it → built for you
Choose AnswerConnect if
- Every caller must reach a human, day and night.
- A message or a transfer is all you need from the call.
Choose Right On Call if
- Your calls are service requests that should end on the schedule.
- You want 24/7 coverage at a price that holds up in a busy season.
- You want French handled on the same line.
Built for the calls you miss, not to replace the people who answer
Right On Call can answer every call if you want it to. That isn’t what it is built for. It is built so that a call you would have missed, on a roof, in a crawlspace, at lunch, after 5, on a Saturday, gets picked up and ends as a booked job instead of a voicemail nobody returns.
Why Right On Call →Right On Call vs AnswerConnect: questions
Is AnswerConnect available in Canada?
Yes, it has a Canadian site and a Canadian plans page. Prices reported for Canada differ from the US figures reviewers publish, so ask for a written quote in Canadian dollars and ask how minutes are counted.
Is an AI receptionist cheaper than AnswerConnect?
Usually. Reviews put AnswerConnect at about US$1.75 a minute inside a plan and about US$2.50 past it, counted by handling time. Right On Call is $199 CAD for 200 minutes, then $0.70 CAD a minute of talk time. The trade-off is a human voice; our answering-service comparison covers when that matters.
